Registration and Immunizations
Welcome to our district! We’d like to take just a moment to share our registration and immunization policies with you and invite you to contact us if you have any questions or need further assistance. If you have a child who will be entering kindergarten in the fall, please be sure to note the special section below that we prepared specifically with you in mind.
To register new students, please visit the school your child will be attending. Personnel at the school will provide you with the appropriate paperwork and answer any questions you may have about the school. When you come in to register, please bring:
All paperwork must be completed and on file before your child may attend school. Please note that all new students will undergo a health check by our school nurse as part of their registration requirements.
Valley School District requires that all students be current on immunizations to attend school, according to state law. For your convenience, we have provided a list of current requirements at the side of this page. If your child has special circumstances that require an exemption from this ruling, please speak to our front office staff; they will be happy to assist you.
Kindergarten and First Grade Registration
According to state requirements, all incoming kindergarten students must be five years old on or before August 1 to attend the upcoming school term. If you have a child preparing to enter kindergarten, please be sure to include your child’s birth certificate along with your registration paperwork and the residency requirements noted above.
State law also requires that students turn six years old on or before August 1st to attend first grade. All incoming first graders (unless your kindergarten completion occurred at Valley) should provide a copy of your birth certificate upon registration to meet this requirement. We are excited to welcome you to Valley School District and invite you to get involved in your child’s education through our EPAT program.
Non-resident families may elect to send their children to Valley School District on a tuition basis, provided we have the available space and personnel to accommodate them. A non-resident student is a student who does not meet the residency requirements noted by district policy. All non-resident students must pay tuition to cover the costs of their education and school operations as set annually by state law, unless they:
Special rules apply to children whose parents (or guardians) pay school taxes on property within the school district but do not live here. You may opt to attend school at Valley on a tuition/tax-credit basis; school taxes paid to our district are deducted from any tuition charges that may be applicable to your children. In order for this credit to be properly accounted, however, you must bring your local property tax statement with you when registering.
There are also special rules for farmers whose land spreads across multiple school districts. You may be able to choose which district you would like your child to attend. For more information, please contact us at the district office.
To speed the process of your registration, please print and complete the admission forms before visiting your child’s school. You will find them on our Policies page under subtitle 2000 Students and 2200 Admission & Withdrawal.
