Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find the answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked. If you’d like further information after reading the answers below, please take some time to review the Valley School District Student Handbook (found in the Quick Links section on the Home page of this website). As always, you are welcome to give us a call with any additional questions you may have.

What is the dress code for Valley District schools?

We expect our students to dress in a way that shows respect for themselves, for others, and for their school. Students may not wear any clothing that distracts from the learning experience. Specifically, we do not allow:

  • Shirts that expose the midriff or excessive armpit area, muscle shirts, or spaghetti straps
  • Shorts that do not pass the “fingertip-length” test
  • Clothing that is offensive or promotes drug- or gang-related activity
  • Flip-flops, Wheelies, or other shoes that pose a safety risk
  • Spandex (unless it is worn under additional clothing) or pajama-type clothing
  • Hats and sunglasses in the buildings

We reserve the right to determine whether a student’s clothing is appropriate for school. For more details regarding our dress code, please review the Student Handbook.

What will happen if my child becomes ill while at school?

If a student becomes ill, we will attempt to notify a parent or guardian promptly, and we will care for the student in our nurse’s station until a parent or guardian arrives. Students may not leave school grounds without either a parent or another approved adult (as listed on the student’s information form). If the situation is a medical emergency, we will follow standard emergency procedures.

How can I pay for college? What steps does my child need to take now to make the most of his/her high school years?

There are some great resources out there to help navigate the financial obstacles of college. The state of Missouri offers some amazing scholarships that could pay for up to two full years of your child’s college career! As a district, we also offer our students the opportunity to take college credit or utilize career training while they’re still in high school. For more information, please visit our High School web page.
